Travel List for 2015

Ever since vacationing at Catalina Island and visiting my best friend in Nebraska, I’ve been on a “travel kick.” I want to go everywhere. I keep making all these lists and plans that I’m slowly driving myself crazy. I’ve finally narrowed it down to three places. One of them is for sure and the other two are maybes. I couldn’t decided which one I want to go to more so I added both.

#1: Lake Powell, AZ – This made the list again because my sister said she wants to go. I think she’s still bummed we went to Catalina but it was fun. They have a great website for planning the trip. The only down side was I couldn’t find much about food and if anything, I always go for the food. We’re planning on taking a boat tour along with kayaking and all kinds of water stuff. If we go, we will most likely drive there. We’re not really looking forward to the drive. It’s approximately 8 hours from where we are and well…we could be in San Francisco in 8 hours. I am excited about going because it means I can check Arizona off my visit 50 states list.

#2: Morro Bay, CA – This was originally no where on the list. However, my sister went on a trip with friends and made it sound so amazing now I want to go! She was telling me about the beach sand. I know it’s strange but we typically judge a beach by the sand and cleanliness. She said the beach up there surpasses Laguna Beach which made me really curious. Laguna is my #1 down here so I knew I had to put it on the list. She kept saying soft beach sand and I was convinced. I’ve never stopped here on the way to San Fran but I heard it’s really nice. We’ll either go to Lake Powell or come here. Is it sad to say I pick here instead? 🙂 It’s closer and we’ll be going to the beach! I’m hoping we can rent a house within walking distance of the beach.

#3: Hershey, PA – My best friend and I are travel junkies. Since she moved to Nebraska, I’ve been scheming up ways for us to get together. I went to visit her in Nebraska last September and she came to California in December. However, she might be PCSing to Japan with her hubby at the end of this year. I was planning on visiting her again in Nebraska in the spring but since she might be going to Japan, I thought I’d visit her there instead. So now we’re going to Hershey, PA. Mainly for the chocolate. I’ve been dying to see Chocolate World and Hershey Park. I know, I know, I’m a 5 year old at heart. I’m not going to lie, I love me a good Kit Kat bar. Actually…come to think of it, I’ve never had a bad Kit Kat bar. Anyway, they also have a chocolate spa. We’re completely sold and definitely going after summer. Strangely enough, I heard of Hershey, PA while watching the HBO series Band of Brothers because of Major Winters. I might have to bring an extra suitcase just to fit all my goodies.

And for the honorable mentions that almost made the list..
#1: New Orleans, LA – I love NOLA’s atmosphere. I love oysters…and cajun food. I was drooling when I looked at the food scene. I wasn’t sold on the super expensive hotels. If I were to go I’d at least stay for a week and it costs about a grand just for the hotel stay. Not within my budget.
#2: Washington, DC – This has been on my travel list for a long time. I want to go see all the monuments and soak in the atmosphere of Capitol Hill. However, like NOLA it’s just way too expensive for my budget right now. It would take me at least two weeks minimum to see everything I want to see.
#3: Charleston, SC – My sister likes places that are considered “quaint” and she’s into the bed and breakfast thing. I’m not much for that because I think my taste is a little too luxurious sometimes but I humor her. She wants a bed and breakfast AND a rodeo. Do they have rodeos in Charleston? If so where are they? Help a girl out because she said it’s my job to research so I need to add it to the list. I just want the shrimp and grits.

The list for 2016? You had better believe NOLA will be on there. And in addition to NOLA, Hawaii will be on there and possibly the Cayman Islands and/or Washington, DC. I have two must haves for vacay: one is the beach, two is the food. Everything else is secondary. I’m so excited! Oh and who got hired? This girl! 🙂 I’m truly blessed with all the opportunities that I have been given. Nothing but good vibes today!

Bulgogi House (Rowland Heights, CA)

008
Let me just say, I freakin LOVE Korean BBQ! It’s just one of those things I never get sick of. I went with a group of friends to grab kbbq before our friend moves to Nebraska. You gotta love the Air Force. Nothing against Nebraska besides I’ve never been there but I thought it was funny my friend and fellow SoCal girl is moving there. I keep reminding her of all the corn she’ll find 😀

Her and the hubby grilling 🙂 She’ll probably yell at me for this picture. We got beef brisket, boneless ribs, bulgogi beef, spicy tofu, and steamed egg.

Us outside after we were done eating. Probably one of the last pictures we will have together in a long time 😦

The bulgogi beef was excellent! 🙂 The brisket was also good. The boneless rib was okay but lacked flavor. Did I mention this is AYCE (all you can eat)? The only thing that sucked was the service. I don’t mean the waiters or waitress but the manager really sucked. We were waiting for a few people in our group and they wouldn’t seat us without everyone being present. We barely finished eating (were still drinking water) and the lady put the check on the table without us asking for it. THEN the busboy comes and asked us if we were done. Who does that?! THEN the manager comes by and stands by our table and stares at us. That was so freakin awkward. My friend didn’t even finish her soda yet. But other than that, the food was good and I was in good company. The meal comes with free rice but you have to ask for it. I’m still in love with the bulgogi beef. I might come back but it probably won’t be around dinner time because it gets pretty crowded. Parking in the small lot also sucked. It took awhile for some of us to park and some spots are only one hour parking. Maybe for lunch on a weekday if I’m really craving kbbq. I might just go to New Korea House down the street. I heard they have squid. Yum! 🙂

Glen Ivy Hot Springs (Corona, CA)

Woot woot! One of my best friends from college is getting married in a little over a week. I’m super excited for her and yesterday a group of us spent the day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona to celebrate her bachelorette party. I gotta say it was pretty awesome. I haven’t felt that relaxed in such a long time. It was really nice to enjoy a day not worrying about anything and just spending time with friends. We rented the citrus cabana which was super nice. It was great to have a private space to ourselves. We got all of our food comped so for the cabana, my friends admission, and my own admission it was less than 100 which is pretty rad. Usually spas are crazy expensive. Good thing I saved up for the trip! I actually deposited all the coins in my piggy bank but that’s a story for another time. I took plenty of pictures! 🙂

Another group shot. Lahaina had us put on lipstick or gloss and kiss her picture frame. Then we wrote messages and signed it by our kisses.

We took a picture with Aaron. He was our picture boy and escort. He was pretty funny 🙂

Krystal and I making decorating pins for the bachelorette game. We each got to decorate two pins and we weren’t allowed to talk about anything related to the wedding. If we said anything about the wedding than whoever caught us would take one of our pins. Meredith won.

Lahaina had a message so the rest of us ladies enjoyed the pools. This is a hilarious picture of Tiffany trying to teach Genelyn how to float. The picture doesn’t do it justice but it was so funny. I was shaking trying to get a good picture.

BBQ chicken salad for lunch. It was eh. The dressing and the chips were good. The lettuce looked like the kind I buy in the bags at the grocery store and the chicken was dry. Bleh!

Lahaina with her frame! Mine is the one on the bottom right hand corner. Also known as fish lips 😛

Christina’s lunch of chicken nachos. I was told it wasn’t all that either. I heard the pizzas were good though!

It was an awesome experience. I didn’t get to take my camera with me but we did explore a lot of the pools. We did the saline pool first. It’s basically a pool containing sulfur and smells like rotten eggs. Once you get use to the smell it does wonders. It made my skin baby soft. After that we went to the plunge pools. It was so insane! The plunge pools consist of a hot pool and a cold pool. You stay in the hot pool for a minute and than go to the cold pool for 30 seconds. I did it 10 times before Krystal, Mere, and I tapped out and went to sunbathe instead. Everyone else did it 15 times. We actually recruited other people to do it with us which was hilarious. The cold pool was so cold. I think the water was 50 degrees which is like Monterey Bay, NorCal cold. After the plunge pools we went into the Roman bath for awhile. After that we grabbed lunch and played another game. Each of us except Lahaina wrote two memories we have of her and two wishes we have of the future on sticky notes. Each of us would read four of them and Lahaina had to guess which one of us wrote it. It was so funny because she couldn’t guess who some of them were so she went around the table. Basically it was how well you knew your friends. After we ate we went to Club Mud and exfoliated our skin with mud. After that we baked in this heated room, brushed off the dried mud, and rinsed. The rinsing part was the hardest. It got everywhere! When we were done we headed back the cabana where Lahaina went to get a massage and the rest of us soaked in the pools. We went to three different pools and lounged before hitting the showers. Not everyone got to go but we made a trip to Farrell’s in Rancho Cucamonga and I finally got to try the Gibson Girl. That thing is huge by the way. I got the club sandwich which is a turkey club with bacon. It was three layers and super huge. I was super tired and sleepy by that time and Farrell’s gets pretty loud with all the drumming and singing. It’s entertaining but holy cow, it gave me a headache. If it was earlier in the day I probably would have loved it. Next time!

Justina
