TFSP: Valentine’s Day Spa Package Giveaway for MilSpouses!

I have to admit..I’ve been a pretty bad blogger in terms of reading up on blogs and writing blog posts. I saw a picture that caught my eye when I was reading Kara’s blog. It was a spouse box filled with goodies for $29.95 a month. I looked at some of the links AND I found my new obsession. Udderly Natural Handcrafted body products. As in everything I’ve wanted in a spa package. AND there are a ton of different flavors and scents to choose from.

Here are the following items included in this giveaway..
5oz sugar scrub
2oz bath bomb
2oz goat milk lotion
1 goat milk soap bar
1 lip balm

The winner of this giveaway will have the chance to choose any flavors and scents of all the items listed above. Not a bad way to pamper yourself if I do say so myself.

To enter the giveaway..
– You must be a military spouse at some point (veteran/wounded warrior spouses count)
– Write a active blog (2 blog posts per month)
– Live in the U.S. (giveaways only ship in the U.S.)
– Enter through this link,here
.

The winner will be contacted through email and through my social media accounts. Winner will have three days to respond to my email from the day the email was sent or another winner will be chosen. I hope you ladies enjoy! 🙂

And for those that are curious, I’m hosting this giveaway early because I want the winner to be able to use the items by Valentine’s Day. Sometimes things take a while. Have a good one 🙂

On The Move

So I’ve been super busy and preoccupied with life that I’ve neglected this little blog of mine. Work has me busy and tired most of the time. I still don’t think I’m used to standing that long no matter what type of shoes I wear. Volunteering has been great. There’s a veterans event at the hospital tomorrow and Friday. I hope it turns out great because sometimes it’s like really? School applications have been a pain but like they say, you gotta do what you gotta do. I have to do about 400 field study hours which I think is insane but it’s required. YAY for going for a masters right? Anyway, I’ve been working on finding a field study site. So far I’m looking at paid field study sites which look quite promising. The only downside is that most of them are in the Orange County area which means if I do get accepted, I will be moving down to Fullerton or Orange. This doesn’t leave me with that much time to look for an apartment and pack all my stuff to be ready by the time school rolls around. Hopefully they contact me soon. It’s driving me nuts and I’m super anxious and agitated these days.

I’ve been so worked up about that stuff I actually forgot about the giveaway for July. I know, shame on me! It is my own project after all. I had plans to send out cookies for July 4th but those plans didn’t work out. I’m trying to shy away from the care package aspect since it seems to be what I keep doing. I want to do different things. I’ve been thinking about gift cards for gas for summer vacations for military families or maybe gift cards to Staples and such for back to school supplies. I honestly don’t remember the last time I went back to school shopping. That makes me feel super old. BOO! 😦 My sister always said, when in doubt get a gift card. I’m currently thinking of other ideas for my project since it concludes next month and I’ll be re-evaluating what aspects I want to keep and which ones to get rid of. Happy summer everyone! I still haven’t hit any of my sweet bucket list shops!

Project Give: Care Package For Marine

It’s June 1st and you all know what that means. Another Project Give giveaway in the context of a care package being sent to a marine overseas. Again, I will be using http://www.anymarine.com for the selection of the recipient. I’ve written in previous giveaway posts that military spouses are always surprising me one way or another. Well, this month is no different. I contacted Tracie Brookshire about her Scentsy business after looking at several pages online and getting totally confused. What’s a warmer? A Scentsy circle? A Scentsy pak? Wait, what? You get the drift. Now, I can actually tell you what a warmer or a pak is. Thanks to Julie of Soldier’s Wife Crazy Life for explaining the products to me as well! Before I get into the Scentsy details, let me tell you a little bit about Tracie.

Tracie is a military spouse and marine wife. Her hubby, Sgt Major Matthew Brookshire (affectionately known as badass Brookshire) was the big bro’s Sgt Major when he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. He retired a few years ago. Now I may sound like a crazy fan girl but believe me when I say you will never meet another person like Tracie Brookshire. She is such a sweet and gracious woman. I was a bit nervous to talk with her but after talking to her, she is everything I would imagine an awesome milspouse to be. She truly exemplifies what a badass marine wife is. I love her southern accent too! 🙂 When I explained what I wanted to purchase from her and why I was doing it, she offered to donate items for this care package. How awesome is that?! There are very few people who will immediately say they’d like to help you. I’m thankful she’s one of them! She’s been so helpful and supportive of me with my goals for running Project Give. I think what I love about her the most is that she makes me feel like I’m a part of her family even though I was a stranger. It’s really hard to find people like that and when you do, you know you’ve met one of the greats.

I purchased room sprays and Scentsy circles. I didn’t know what the scents would smell like but I trusted her judgment so I let her pick them. As long as they were “manly” scents than it was fine. I might pay to see the look on a male marines face if someone sent him a girly scent. Then again, he might actually use it since I heard the smell could get pretty groddy overseas. When I opened the package and took a whiff, the sprays smelled heavenly. The circles were a bit harder to smell through the packaging but that’s fine. She donated some room sprays as well as Scentsy paks. The paks smell amazing! There’s also razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap bars, hand sanitizers, and a loafah in the care package. Do men use loafahs? Well, if they don’t, I’m sure they could give it to a female who would. I sure hope the marine getting this package will enjoy all the hygiene items. I pick different marines every time that way everyone gets support.

So if you’re ever in need of any Scentsy items, be sure to check out her site here. She’s an amazing lady. You won’t regret it. Happy June everyone! 🙂

Project Give: March Giveaway!!

Hi all! It’s time for another giveaway with Project Give: For Military Spouses. This month’s giveaway is sponsored by the wonderful Katie of Going Coastal With The Plumes and has a spring theme to it. Thanks so much Katie! You’re awesome 🙂

Here’s a guest post from Katie..
Hello!
I’m Katie and I blog over at Going Coastal with the Plumes. When I found out about Justina and her monthly giveaways to military spouses I was sort of in awe. She isn’t even a military spouse herself, yet every month she got a little box together to send to one special military spouse – I just can’t get over how sweet that is! When she mentioned in January that she wouldn’t be able to do quite as many this year – I totally jumped at the opportunity to help her out!

It’s March. {What?} And that means it’s ALMOST spring. Ah – yay! I love spring. Actually, I love summer, but to get to summer, you have to go through spring. This month we will set our clocks forward, which I know some people grumble about because they lose an hour of sleep, but it’s my favorite. I love when it doesn’t get dark at 5:30 anymore. I mean, I LOVE it.

So I went to my favorite store {IKEA} and got some fun springtime goodies for one lucky military spouse!

Project Give: 4MS February Giveaway

Welcome to the February giveaway for Project Give: 4MS! Originally, I had planned to have a giveaway every month for a year to see where this “project” takes me. Those hopes were slightly altered when work didn’t want to cooperate. I interviewed for a job as a therapist back in the spring of 2013 and it seemed like such a dream job. It went downhill as they promised to increase my hours but actually cut them as well as health insurance (who knew it would be so expensive?!). There were weeks where I only worked 9 hours per week. Needless to say, my funds set aside for this project has dwindled as bills piled up and I am no longer employed. But fear not! Military spouses to the rescue. Thank you Kara! She’s freakin awesome if I do say so myself. I’ve decided to focus on volunteer opportunities and grad school applications. UCLA, here I come!

Kara from Ramblings Of A Marine Wife kindly offered to sponsor this month’s giveaway. I started this project to help military spouses but I didn’t expect it to be the other way around. I am in awe of all the generous and kind hearted people in the world. It’s funny how when you less expect it, that’s when great things happen. I’m super grateful for Kara and her generosity as well as Katie of Going Coastal With The Plumes, who offered to sponsor next month’s giveaway. You ladies rock!

This month’s giveaway is Valentine’s Day themed. The giveaway consists of a candle, 2 face masks, nail polish, bath salts, and chocolate. An excellent way to pamper yourself.

– Enter through Rafflecopter because only Rafflecopter entries are accepted
– Be a military spouse and have a blog (non-bloggers email me if you’d like to enter)

Here’s a guest post from Kara:

The origins of Valentine’s Day aren’t known exactly. Some believe it started with Saint Valentine, while others believe the day was started to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalla, a fertility festival dedicate to the Roman god of agriculture. Either way, we now have the modern day Valentine’s Day, a commercialized day for friends and lovers.

We don’t do much for Valentine’s Day at our house, mainly because our anniversary and our daughter’s birthday are within a couple days of February 14. My husband isn’t much for romance either. When we got married, I told him I was screwing myself for life because it was so close to Valentine’s Day and he laughed. I will forever only get one of the days acknowledged, but as long as at least one is acknowledged, then I’m fine with it. If he ever forgets both though, he’s a dead man.

When I do think of Valentine’s Day, I think of the fun we had at school making the boxes for our cards. Old shoeboxes covered in construction paper hearts. It was always so fun to open up all those cards, even if we did have to give one to everyone in the class. Now, my kids are at the age where they have Valentine’s Day parties at school. My oldest has had them for a few years now, but this will be the first year for my daughter. She already talks about the boyfriends she has at school, so I’m half excited and half terrified to see how the day is going to go for her.

It’s safe to say we don’t have big plans for the 14th this year. My only hope is for my husband to take me out for our anniversary and to get some alone time. Not alone time with my husband, alone time with myself and the bathtub, preferably.

double mint chocolate cookies

 photo 006_zpsf928571a.png
This year I wanted to make “festive” cookies to give away to family as Christmas goodies. I have no idea how festive double mint chocolate cookies are but the kids loved them. My uncle loved them as well. They are infused with mint Oreos and Andes mint chocolates. I also made white chocolate cranberry cookies and they were a hit with the adults. I guess I should have known that chocolate wouldn’t win over any of my aunts or my grandma.

Double Mint Chocolate Cookies (adapted from Life, Love, and Sugar)
2 sticks of unsalted butter at room temp
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup cocoa (if you want the cookies to be a black color instead of dark brown use Hershey’s special dark cocoa)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
5 oz Andes mint chocolates (I used about 3/4 of the package)
3/4 cup mint Oreos

– cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy
– add egg and mix
– add vanilla and baking soda and mix again
– add cocoa and mix
– add flour slowly and mix just until combined (it’ll be thick)
– add the Oreos and mint chocolates (I added them whole and used my mixer to crush them but you can chop them before if you’d like) and mix just until Oreos and chocolates are broken
– chill for about 3-4 hours or overnight (I chilled my for 48 hrs)
– preheat oven to 350 degrees
– roll dough into mini golf balls and press slightly to flatten them
– bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes
– let cool and enjoy or package them and give em away 🙂

I got about 30 mini cookies out of this recipe. You could probably get 16-18 regular sized cookies. They taste pretty good considering the fact that I’m not a fan of the mint Oreos. I sampled one and thought they would be awesome because they’re Oreos but I was SO WRONG! The Oreos have a funky taste that reminds me of my toothpaste. The cookies were spot on though! My little cousins loved them.
