Anteater to Toro to Tar Heel?

For the past few weeks I’ve been sick with a sore throat, stuffy nose, sneezing, and etc. I thought I would make progress on my graduate school decisions while I was laying in bed. Please don’t ask why I thought it was a good idea. It could have to do with all the medication I’ve been taking. I came up with a list of four possible schools I want to apply for. #1 is USC. They have the subconcentration of working with military families and veterans services and that falls right into place with what I want to do. Down side is that tuition for a year is 91,000+. #2 is UNC Chapel Hill. They have a community and non-profit services leadership concentration which would be excellent for my goals to run a non-profit organization. The down side is that it’s on the other side of the country. Am I really THAT independent? I have no clue. #3 is UCLA. They have a non-profit sector concentration which is similar to UNC CH. They also have Operation Mend which would an amazing opportunity. Down side is it’s super hard to get in. It is UCLA after all. #4 is University of Chicago. They have a community, administrative, leadership concentration. It’s very broad which I love and hate at the same time. It’s ranked as the best program out of the four. The down side is the tuition and rent would leave me in debt forever and it’s far away from home.

I’m the type of person that would always chose to live by sand and water if I had to pick. I don’t know if I’ll survive the winters of Chicago or Chapel Hill. Right now I’m leaning towards Chapel Hill because it’ll give me an opportunity to grow as a person and be independent, learn about different cultures, and it’s way cheaper than the other three. The only dilemma I have is that there’s no specific sub concentration like SC has. Ugh! It’s driving me crazy right now. I cannot decide where to go. Oh and the anteater is the mascot from UCI (my alumni). The toro is the mascot from CSU Dominguez Hills which is also my alumni. Anyone have any input? I’ve officially declared that I am the most indecisive person ever.

Fail Sweetly,

finally back!

I’m finally back! Sorry for the lack of posts. I’ve been super busy with work and usually when I get home, I hit the pillow. My school is officially on spring break so I’ll have more time to post! So far I’m planning on going to the shooting range, Palm Springs, and maybe Tanaka Farms for strawberry picking. Work has been pretty killer so I’m going to enjoy the next week off. I’m in dire need of spa time. Does anyone have any recipes for cheesecake?? 🙂 A coworker of mine loves cheesecake and her birthday is coming up in April. She’s helped me a great deal with working at my school so I wanted to make her something good. Most of the cheesecake recipes I’ve tried are hit or miss.

I hope everyone enjoys their Easter if they celebrate it. The kids I work with were asking me what I was going to make since it’s Easter tomorrow. When I told them I wasn’t going to make anything they looked so disappointed. Those little suckers are spoiled rotten. According to them, I bring in goodies for every holiday so Easter should be no different. I must be out of it because they had to explain it to me..lol quite sad 😦 I don’t even remember what I brought if I brought anything. Anyway, they plagued me with guilt since everyone knows I’m a baker so I made them Easter goody bags. I didn’t have the funds to buy ingredients to bake so I bought two bags of Takis, two bags of Cheetos, and some gold fish and put them in Easter bags. I’m not in middle school so someone please explain this to me. Are Takis the new Cheetos or something? All the kids at my school LOVE Takis. I didn’t even know what they were when I first started working there. The only place I have seen them is the gas station. Hot Cheetos > Takis any day! 🙂 The kids loved them because they had Takis in them..spoiled rotten I tell you.

I guess I spoil my coworkers too because I bought a box of brownies at Albertsons and I offered one to my coworker. She asked me if I made them and when I said no, she goes no thank you. I think that’s a sign that they’re spoiled by my homemade baked goodies. I give them to people to lure them in and make them my guinea pigs. I accept criticism for my baking lol If it doesn’t taste good, I don’t get offended. I’ve made a bunch of different kinds of cookies and they seem to enjoy them. They nicknamed me the cookie monster. Thanks for reading! Hopefully I’ll find time to update my blog soon.

school starting

Hey all. Sorry I’ve been kind of M.I.A. I’ve been trying to get ready for school and getting everything in my room organized. This week is welcome week so I’ve been busy going to all the events. I got to see Shwayze and Cisco on Tuesday so that was pretty cool. I spent Monday going to the involvement fair on campus and then making dinner at my friends house. We made spaghetti and meatballs (courtesy of the PW). It was a hilarious night because she was trying to teach me how to play Mario Carts. I’m pretty dumb when it comes to video games. Anyway, Tuesday was the Aldrich Park After Dark concert. It was kind of boring at first because we went about 1 1/2hr late and Shwayze still wasn’t there yet. He’s pretty legit though so I was content. It was awkward because the majority of the people in attendance were freshmen. I found it hilarious that this one girl who wasn’t 21 yet got caught drunk. I mean really? It’s somewhat pathetic now that I think about it. Yesterday was baking night. I baked chocolate cupcakes for my friend Yvonne because her birthday’s on Sunday. They came out pretty well. Today was the first day of class. I have to say I’m quite surprised I didn’t want to run and go back to my apartment. I felt like that all of last year. I was on campus till about 8pm which is surprising. Class was alright. Nothing too crazy happened. I’ve been going out a lot this past week because of welcome week so there hasn’t been a lot of recipes because by the time I get back to my apartment I fall on my bed and snooze. My eyes are kind of closing as I’m typing this. There will be recipes for char siu, spaghetti and meatballs, and chocolate cupcakes w/buttercream frosting coming soon. I’ll probably post them on saturday or Sunday. Saturday’s my cleaning day so probably Sunday. Thanks for coming by 🙂
