toasted marshmallow milkshake

 photo milkshake_zps93f805ca.jpg

I made these at work a few weeks ago and they were delish. The coolest part was they let me use a flame torch. Not the super big ones like you see on the Food Network but the mini ones. It was awesome! 🙂 I didn’t burn anything or anyone.

Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
approx 10 toasted marshmallows (make sure they’re really toasted and not burned)
3-4 large scoops of vanilla ice cream (vanilla bean ice cream would be best)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2-3/4 cup of whole milk
extra toasted marshmallows for garnishing
whipped cream for garnishing

– in a blender, blend together the 10 marshmallows and ice cream until creamy
– add milk and vanilla extract and blend again
– if the shake it too watery, add more ice cream. if it’s too thick, add more milk. adjust to your taste 🙂

These are delicious! You can also add frozen strawberries and make strawberry marshmallow milkshakes. So so good!

Cookie Bowls for Lunar New Year

 photo 003_zps4b346285.png
This year for Chinese New Year, I decided to make a cookie bowl for every family within my family. I made raspberry jelly buttons and s’more bites to fill the bowls. CNY is all about red because red is considered good luck so I wrapped the bowls in red cello wrap and tied it off with red ribbon. I got the ribbon for .75 at CVS during the after Christmas sales. It was an awesome deal and it looks so pretty! 🙂

Cookie Bowls
6 styrofoam bowls
18 raspberry jelly buttons
18 s’more bites
red cello wrap
red ribbon (or gold ribbon)

– place three of each kinds of cookies in a bowl (each bowl should have 6 total)
– wrap the bowl with cello wrap
– tie with ribbon

S’mores Bites (adapted from Mal Smiles)
1 package regular fudge stripe cookies
1 package regular marshmallows

– line a cookie sheet with foil or parchment paper
– place half of the cookies chocolate side up
– place a marshmallow on each cookie
– broil for a minute (or more depending on your broiler – be careful not to let it burn!)
– immediately place another cookie chocolate side down on top of the marshmallows and push down slightly to make a sandwich
– let cool and enjoy! 🙂

There are no pictures of the s’mores bites because I ate em. They were so darn good! It’s an excellent recipe to use if you’re wanting to do something fun with kids. They’ll love it! It only taste better as the days go on. Enjoy!

Amara Chocolate & Coffee (Pasadena, CA)

I got my chocolate fix on at Amara. It’s a cute little coffee shop in Oldtown Pasadena.

They’re famous for their coffee, hot chocolate, and churros.

This is the 12 piece cinnamon sugar churros with two dipping sauces. My sister and I got the milk chocolate and dark chocolate.

This is part of their breakfast menu. I think it’s called a arepa? Something like that. It had eggs, bacon, and smoked gouda. I didn’t like the taste of the outside because it was flavorless. All I could taste was the bacon. The eggs weren’t seasoned very well and the smoked gouda had no distinct taste. I LOVE smoked gouda so I’m not sure what kind of cheese was used.

This is called the Raymond. It’s venezuelan hot chocolate with salted caramel marshmallows. It was SO GOOD! 🙂 It’s definitely rich so I was glad I got the small. It’s not too sweet just very rich.

This was the cute flower they had on the table

My sister ordered spicy Aztec coffee. The cup and plate are so adorable! I might have to get a set of these!

Cinnamon sugar churro dipped in dark chocolate. These aren’t like the churros you buy at the fair. These are very crispy on the outside and are best when warm.

I carved a pumpkin! 🙂 I’ll have more pictures soon. It was my first pumpkin carving and I think overall it went very well. Thanks for reading!

marshmallow treats

I’ve been wanting to make granola bars all week and somehow my desire for granola bars turned into marshmallow treats. I found leftover rice krispies cereal and marshmallows and decided to go the marshmallow route 🙂
 photo 007_zpsd834aedc.png

Marshmallow Treats
3/4 bag mini marshmallows, divided
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cups rice krispies cereal
1 1/2 cups quaker oats cereal
1 cup raw almonds
1/2 cup organic sweet and dried cranberries

– In a medium pan, melt butter
– Once butter is completely melted, add the marshmallows minus one cup (save it for later)
– In a medium bowl, add the cereals, almonds, cranberries, and one cup of leftover marshmallows
– When the marshmallow has completely melted, pour on top of the cereal mixture and mix
– Press mixture into a 13x9in pan and press down to get an even layer
– Let cool for about an hour so it firms up before you cut into it

I was hesitant about adding almonds but the taste of the melted marshmallows and the almonds seem to really blend together. It’s delicious 🙂 Definitely something that fools you into thinking it’s healthy! A trick I use when I push down the mixture into the pan is having a small bowl of cold water handy. I dip my fingers into the cold water before pressing down on the mixture. That way I won’t get burned because the mixture is still hot and my fingers won’t stick to the mixture. It’s always worked for me so if you’re having trouble, try it out. Happy eating! 🙂 The two year anniversary of my little blog is coming up! I’m actually super excited (and I remembered this year).
